Ties that Bind

sewing No Comments »

It has been almost a week of feasting and visiting to celebrate Eidul Fitri. In our region it is a tradition in this joyous month to take as much opportunity as possible to visit families and friends when normal days everyone is just too busy with own lives. It is a great time to catch up with relationships and to strengthen the ties that bind.

My beautiful kidssofa setOn the left are my four beautiful kids taken on first day of Eidul Fitri- Tamim, Zurikh, Muaz and my girl, Rushdah.

To match my cathedral window cushions I have sewn a circle patchwork table runner in another version of cathedral window pattern but this one is all machine sewn unlike the two cushions which are hand pieced. The dark brown cotton material with pretty ladies and vases motifs is a lovely cotton from India. My only complaint is that the color runs, so I have to take extra care washing it.

Dining setMy dining set patchwork are patched in combination of blue and red American cottons. The dining chair covers hide the otherwise old upholstery of the chairs making the whole set looking new and vibrant. I chose to sew the covers with ties from bias strips to keep them in place.Dining chair cover

To all let us take this chance to patch old relationships, weave new ones and strengthen the ties that bind us together.

Window Shopping in KL

News 4 Comments »

I was confined in the convention center most of the time during my stay in KL so I didn’t have time to check out Malaysian handicrafts. Malaysia is well-known for their batiks and the batik products are being actively produced in the states of Terengganu and Kelantan on the east coast of Malaysia. I’m sure batik prints make lovely patchwork with their exotic designs.

At MidvalleyAt KLCCInstead I managed to snap a few miserable photos while window shopping.

Patchwork from ChinaThe photo of the patchwork quilts was taken from one of the roadside vendors. The quilts are from China and they cost M$100 and below but the cotton is of lower quality. The workmanship is not as good as the patchwork quilts from Korea which I have seen.

By the way the photos were captured from my new mobile and they turned out not too bad.

UYMG Malaysia Rocks

News 6 Comments »

Hi folks,

UYMGI’m still breathing. I have put aside my sewing, blogging and marketing to give myself a nice break. Here I am in Kuala Lumpur attending UYMG Malaysia, a Stephen Pierce internet marketing event . Today is my fourth and last day of the long sessions(each day’s session ended only after 8 pm). But nobody is complaining. We are enjoying ourselves here.

Tomorrow I will catch up with some shopping before I head for home back to my sewing and marketing for the family. If I have my choice I would like to stay a few more days as I love the warm Malaysians, especially my favorite cousin, Fairuz, and her beautiful kids, Lina and Azri. But my kids and my significant other back home need me. Life is certainly not easy when Mom is not around.

So catch up with you later as I am still in the middle of the seminar in KLCC. See you soon.
