How to sew a grocery bag caddy
You need is a 1/4 m of 45″ width of material or fat 1/4.
2 pieces of 8″ elastic (1/4″ width)
About 8″ ribbon(1/2″ width) or using the same material cut 2″ by 8″
Cut material 22 1/2″ by 14″ and applique, cross-stitch or embroidery it if you like. Neaten the edges of the shorter ends by pressing1/8″ or using the edging machine.
Press 3/4″ again and sew close to the edges for both ends of the materials to create casings for the elastic.Use a small safety pin to thread the elastic through the casings.
Carefully pull the elastic to create about 2 1/2″ opening (when lay flat) and tack the elastic at both ends.
Fold the length of the fabric in half, align the ends of the casing and sew along the 2 long edges. Cut away excess elastics and neaten the long end of the caddy.Turn the sewn caddy right side out.
Fold the 2″ by 8″ material and sew along the edge . Turn inside out and fold in half. Sew the ends to the seam line at the casing stitch line of the top casing to make a loop for hanging. Alternatively, you can use ribbon instead but make sure neaten the ribbon by edging or over a small fire to avoid fraying.
You now have a useful caddy to store your plastic bags neatly.
