Nappy stackerMaterials needed:

  1. 1 metre printed material
  2. 1/4 metre of plain backing
  3. 1 kid hanger (average size 12″ width)
  4. 1 piece of cardboard14in X 7in fior the base( round off the 4 edges)

For the printed materials cut:

  •  21 in X 43-48 in i.e.  use the whole width of your material
  • 2 in X 43- 48 in (for the ruffles. You can also use another matching material or cotton lace instead)
  • 13 in X 6in - cut 2 pieces for the top (hanger)
  • 16 in X 9 in for the base
  • 5 in X 4 1/2 in for pocket (optional)
  • For the plain material - lining for top and base for a more sturdy nappy stacker.

  •  13 in X 6 in- cut 2 pieces for the top (hanger)
  • 16 in X 9 in for the base
  • Pic 1Neaten the top and bottom edges. Fold the edges length-wise 1″ and press. Right sides facing, sew about 2 1/2″, machine-stitch twice from the bottom-edge. Next, stitch  both sides of the folded edges and press it neatly as this will be the front of the nappy-stacker. Pic2From the 13 by 6″ for both printed and plain material, mark 3/4″ around the sloping edges of the hanger. For the side and bottom at least 1″ allowance to accomodate any change of hanger if the original breaks due to rough handling. Cut and neaten the edges. With right sides facing together stitch together with the backing material all round leaving opening at the bottom. Also stop stitching 1″ before reaching the top of the hangar to leave a gap to insert the hanger.
pic 3From the 16 by 9″, trim the 4 edges of both printed and backing material and neaten. Pic 4Neaten the edges for the ruffle and pocket. Machine stitch at one edge of the material and make tiny pleats as you go along. Fold 1″ for the top of the pocket, press and stitch .
Pic 5Attach  the ruffles around the opened edges. Baste it in place. Pic 6Attach the main body of the nappy stacker to the top with right sides facing together aligning the middle points together.
Pic 7The excess material of the main print are pleated( make box pleat) at the 2 sides. Pic 8Pin and baste them together first before you machine stitch both the top and main body of nappy stacker as above.
Pic 9Now you may attach the pocket aligning it 1.5″ from the edge and 7.5″ from the top. Fold a little at the 2 bottom edges just to make it a little nicer. Pic 10Finally attach the base to the body.Mark the miidle points of each side and pin the mid points of the longer edges to the mid points of the front and back of the main body. Pin and pleats any excess at the 4 corners.Put the piece of cardboard in the nappy stacker before you arrange the disposable diapers in it. Usually I will sew a simple case like a pillow case to insert the cardboard.
