Puff Quilt

I was going through old photos and found that of the puff quilt which I sew years back when my youngest son was a baby. I still treasure it till now.

Puff Quilt

I stopped sewing many years after that as Tamim was a difficult baby until his early childhood years. He was always clinging to me like a koala and just could not bear to be separated from me. I could not even go toilet in peace! See how comfortable he was on my quilt having mummy’s full attention.

Tamim

Now he is a big boy and I like to tease him how I suffered and that I was the abused mom. He used to cry  and screamed loudly at the slightest occasion that people would give me a kind of what-did-you-do-to-him look. And nowadays I would constantly remind him that he will not love his girlfriend or wife more than me. Ha.. ha..Wishful thinking you would say. Reminds me of the famous quote (by DH Lawrence if my memory serves me right) - A son is a son till he gets a wife, a daughter is a daughter till the end of your life. I guess I will only know if I survive old age.

Oh my dear God, what a terrible work! After doing it I would never alow anybody come nearer as 2 meters to it. That don’t ruin this treasure.

Luckily my sewing handworks are not as fragile or easily breakable. Especially when you have 4 kids at home, it’s not easy to keep things under control. I dare not keep crystals or glass decors as they play football at home too.

;))) Fortunatelly I have only 1 husband and 3 cats that can ruin something and I take them far from all the fragile things relatively easy.

That’s beautiful! I am just learning to piece fabric. I just finished a super easy quilt top for my granddaughter and my mom is going to hand quilt it for me. I’m also working on my first “official” quilt that I’m making in my beginning piecing quilt class. I’ll have photos as I go.

  7. fatiah Says:

It’s easy to control your husband Liudmila but I’m sure you have a hard time with the cats.

I made this quilt also when my kids were little and now I want to make one for my grandson but either old age or just plain dumb so you have the pattern for it as in how much material I would need for a crib size quilt and how big the squares are to be cut. I remember that the bottom was smaller and the top about an inch bigger. HELP thanks so much

  11. sewmyname Says:

Good idea Waliz. I will bribe my daughter-in-laws with quilts when my sons marry them.

Hi Melinda. For a small cushion cover the finished size of each puff I make is 2.5″. But for a quilt or a baby quilt a good finished size for each puff is 4″ as the one I made. So you have to cut the top square of 5.5″ including seam allowance. The base is a smaller square, an inch smaller, so you cut 4.5″ squares. Just join the squares and make a pleat in the middle for the extra inch to make it the size of the bottom square. For a baby quilt do not stuff too much batting for each puff, just a little to provide the bulge. I will reply you in your email as soon as possible and will also try to put up the basic instruction up in my blog.
